Dr Bonyfide Presents Bones... Review

Timberdoodle has asked me to review this book series: Dr Bonyfide Presents Bones -Set of 4.

We've had a crazy past few months and so it was difficult to actually get any work done. We evacuated from home due to wildfires in So California, but our home and community was safe. My husband's father has had medical trauma and has been hospitalized. So many things going on lately, but that's the beauty of homeschooling... You can school when and how you need to on an alternate, hectic schedule. But, when we actually had time and sat down to work through the first book, it was so fun.
Mr A is 7. He can't read on his own or really write sentences yet. Basically, we're lacking in the language arts department. So, I had to sit down with him and read through the book with him. (If your child is self-sufficient in reading and writing, these would be great for individual work time.)
There are 4 books in this series:
Bones of the Hand, Arm and Shoulder
Bones of the Foot, Leg and Pelvis
Bones of the Rib Cage and Spine
Bones of the Head, Face and Neck

Mr A chose to start with book 1: hand, arm and shoulder.

I love how the bones are taught in a fun, whimsical way because learning bones.... is rather boring in my opinion. It makes it so much easier to remember too. I mean, because Hamate, what kind of name is that? But, when you link the name to a pirate since Hamate is pronounced 'hey-mate'... that's pretty fun right? I think so. Mr A thought this was a fun page. We were pretending to be pirates for a little while.
What Mr A liked the most in book 1 was the x-ray glasses. You were able to look at the bones in the hand with the glasses. But he kept pulling them out to use every time we sat with the book, whether there was an x-ray photo or not.

Under most of the x-ray hands there was a joke also. Mr A loves jokes. So we kept revisiting those.
"When does a skeleton laugh? When something tickles his funny bone."
The thing he was most surprised about while learning the bones in the hand was that there are 27. "I can't believe there's 27 bones in just one hand. That's so many bones," Mr A kept saying.

What a fun set of books these Dr Bonyfide Presents Bones are. They are a great interactive way to actually remember an otherwise boring subject. I love them. My 7 year old is a tad bit more interest about learning about the body.
Thanks Timberdoodle for fantastic ways to teach my kids.
